Baby Item sewing extravaganza

I have finally been in the mood to sew again! This is a good thing since the baby that work in progress I last posted about is due in less than a week. I can't believe that it is time for the newest nephew to be here. I got the top of the quilt done this morning while Teague was taking a nap before heading out to our playdate at Chick Fil A. (But that is another story for another day.) Now to quilt it, but first I need to decide on a backing. I have been going back and forth over color and material choice. I'm sure David wishes I would just decide and quit talking about it. What do you think...minkee, flannel, or cotton?

I have also been busy sewing to replenish my mom's stash of baby items. She sells most of what she sews (it's how she pays for her hobby!) So I send her a box here and there just so she has some variety, since we sew very different things, with very different fabric choices. I don't sell a whole lot, mainly because I don't have the time to sew quite like she does. That said it is nice when she calls and tells me that she is depositing some money into the account still in town.

These burp cloths are super quick and easy! I can make at least two while Teague is content in the swing. (Which was moved to our bedroom during our Life Group Christmas Party, and I love it up here!) And I can make them out of scraps. Which is even better. They are cloth diapers with fabric down the middle.

I will branch out with more and do a little bit more with them, but for now, they are just fine!

I also decided to make some ready made gift sets. Complete with a burp cloth, a reversible bib, and a pacifier clip. A friend at our playdate this morning told me she makes pacifier clips with hook and loop on both ends. This way the pacifier and the clip come off. Now this doesn't seem like much, but I thought what a great idea, to make several pacifier clips that are interchangeable.

On a completely different note, it has been cold and a bit nasty outside this week. Didn't I move to Georgia? It has snowed every winter I have lived here. That being said this was mostly ice, with just a little snow, so it wasn't even pretty to watch coming down. The roads took three days to clear up, no thanks to a plow or salt, and school still hasn't been in session. That's a whole week of off school for this! Crazy, especially when you consider that Monday student's will be at home to for MLK Jr. Day.

Which was in stark contrast to just last week when Teague was outside enjoying the nice weather. Soon enough spring will be here, right?

I cannot wait for warmer weather, and more hours of sunlight.

  2. Look at you just a regular mom...trying to get it all done with that cute little guy in tow. I would like to try some burp cloths...those are really cute. I would love to see the quilt you did with Bliss. I just ordered a jelly roll of Sunkissed to make a postage stamp quilt for myself...have you seen it on the p.s.Iquilt blog?
I can't believe your weather and that the kids were out of school for a week! You aren't the only one praying for spring.
